Simple Rule: To work legally in Poland as a non-EU citizen, you need work authorization (work permit, oswiadczenie, or single permit) AND legal residence (visa or TRC). The single permit combines both. Most foreign workers in Poland use the single permit route.

Types of Work Authorization

Type Who It’s For Duration Applied By
Single Permit (TRC+Work) Most foreign workers Up to 3 years Employee at Voivodeship Office
Oswiadczenie Quick employment start Up to 24 months Employer at PUP (Employment Office)
Work Permit Type A Standard employment Up to 3 years Employer at Voivodeship Office
Work Permit Type B Board members (12+ employees) Up to 3 years Employer
Work Permit Type C Posted workers (foreign employer) Up to 3 years Foreign employer
EU Blue Card Highly qualified workers Up to 3 years Employee at Voivodeship Office

When to Use Which

Single Permit: Best for most situations. One application, one decision. You get both residence and work rights. Processing takes 2-6 months. Use this if you plan to stay in Poland long-term with one employer.

Oswiadczenie + Visa: Fastest route to start working. The employer registers the oswiadczenie at the local employment office (usually within days). You then enter on a work visa. Use this when you need to start working quickly and will apply for a TRC later. Important: as of 2025, positions under 10 hours/week no longer qualify.

Work Permit Type A + TRC separately: Less common now that the single permit exists. Still used when the employer prefers to handle the work permit process separately.

EU Blue Card: For highly qualified workers earning above 1.5x national average salary. As of 2025, 3+ years of experience can substitute for a degree. Offers greater mobility within the EU after 18 months.
